For years, Darci and I have been talking about the show, How I Met Your Mother. I was late to the game, not discovering it until the first five or six seasons were available on Netflix, but then quickly becoming obsessed. Darci never watched it at all.

But as I tweeted all the writing lessons I was learning from the show, she'd say, "I really need to watch this at some point."

And thus my weirdo dream was born. To do a rewatch podcast (or youtube show, depending on how I was feeling at the time) in which I rewatch the show and Darci watches for the first time and we talk about how we see the show, specifically from a writer's perspective.

I worked up the nerve to tell her this one day in April 2020 and she said, "Well, I'm never going to watch the show UNLESS we do it that way, because that sounds like the most fun possible." (I'm actually paraphrasing, but that's pretty close)

So now it's here.

We'll watch every episode of How I Met Your Mother, starting right at the very beginning, and analyze the show's structure, characters, story arcs, and more, all through the practiced lens of professional writers. Every week, we'll also give you a writing prompt that should help you practice what we talked about.

Join us on this silly adventure and see if we all become better writers in the end.
